Dominican Republic Coffee
Our coffee is direct-trade, meaning it comes directly from the Dominican Republic to our door in DuBois, PA. My husband and I vacationed in the DR several years ago and discovered it was the best tasting coffee we had ever had. I then contacted local farmers and brokers to figure out how to share it with our family and friends. In November of 2009, Java Joey became a micro-roaster and roasts only DR coffee.
The coffee beans are grown in the Barahona region of the DR. Barahonas is the southwestern tip of the Central Range Mountains in the Dominican Republic. Barahona is the name of a coastal port that is an important city that is closest to the mountains. The Barahona region has a unique growing climate and has year-round rainfall creating a long growing season that allow the coffee cherries to ripen slowly.
The coffee is rich, has a creamy body and low acidity. That is why many consider it to be the best coffee from the Dominican Republic. It is even comparable to the fabled Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee!
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
